National Design Institute
Korea, Yangsan
2018
The Design Institute stands as a landmark of sustainable innovation, defined by a fluid, undulating facade that mirrors the natural contours of its surroundings. A primary feature of the building is its expansive green roof, which provides a functional outdoor space while integrating the structure into the local ecosystem through advanced ecological design. The exterior is further distinguished by a rhythmic timber-slat envelope that filters natural light, creating a dynamic interplay of shadow and warmth.
Internally, the institute fosters a culture of collaboration through soaring atriums and biophilic elements, including internal bamboo gardens and water features situated under expansive skylights. Functional zones are meticulously organized, ranging from open-concept workstations that encourage fluid communication to private glass-walled meeting suites. This project represents a harmonious balance between technical precision and organic form, establishing a new standard for contemporary institutional architecture.
