Macheon Residential House

Korea, Seoul, Macheon

2019

The building is designed so that each corner offers a distinct relationship to the surrounding landscape, framing different views toward the forest, river, and terrain. This strategy transforms the house into a continuous viewing device, where movement through the spaces is accompanied by constantly shifting perspectives and a strong connection to nature.

The overall mass is generated by combining two boomerang-shaped volumes stacked on top of one another and twisted in opposite directions. This formal operation creates an unconventional final shape that breaks away from static geometry, giving the building a sculptural presence within the site while responding dynamically to orientation and topography.

As a result, the interior spaces become fluid and varied, shaped by the tension between the rotated masses. Unexpected angles, changing spatial depth, and diverse ceiling conditions produce a dynamic spatial experience, where architecture is perceived not as a fixed object but as a sequence of evolving moments.
