Living Fair
Korea, KOEX
2013
This exhibition showroom is a curated study in formal contrasts, designed to elevate functional objects into the realm of sculptural art. The spatial concept centers on a silent dialogue between historical craftsmanship and futuristic minimalism, inviting visitors to explore the evolution of form. By placing an intricately carved, antique-style chair in the same visual field as high-gloss, organic ceramic silhouettes, the installation highlights the transition from ornamentation to fluid simplicity. Each piece is treated as a singular relic, isolated on elevated wooden daises that "float" above a sea of white river pebbles, creating a gallery environment that feels both physically grounded and conceptually ethereal.
The experiential journey is defined by a series of biophilic interventions that dissolve the traditional boundaries of a showroom. A monumental, floor-to-ceiling water curtain serves as the primary architectural divider, acting as a living, translucent veil that distorts light and movement between exhibition zones. This kinetic element, paired with a backdrop of backlit bamboo and patches of natural turf, creates a Zen-inspired sanctuary that recontextualizes the furniture within a natural landscape. These raw, matte textures of stone and greenery provide a sensory counterpoint to the polished surfaces of the designed products, ensuring that the material integrity and geometric precision of each piece are the undisputed focal points of the room.
